Basketball star Alijah Arenas was released from the hospital on Wednesday, six days after being involved in a serious, single-vehicle accident.
“We are grateful to share that Alijah Arenas has been released from the hospital and is now resting comfortably under close watch,” the family said in a statement.
Updates on Arenas’ health have been provided through the “Gil’s Arena” show, hosted by Arenas’ father and three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas.
Gilbert has been absent from the show since Alijah Arenas was in the accident. A sign in the background of the show’s set reads “We love you Alijah.”
“The family continues to ask for privacy at this time as they continue to focus on Alijah’s healing and well-being,” show producer Josiah Johnson said on Wednesday’s show. “We thank everyone for their continued prayers, encouragement and outpouring of support.”
Arenas, 18, is a USC commit and was a star player at Chatsworth High School, reaching 3,000 career points in just three seasons to become the No. 13 recruit in ESPN’s national recruiting rankings.
The Chancellors are planning a team visit to Arenas soon.
Arenas was on his way to a workout on Thursday when he lost control of a Tesla Cybertruck and crashed into a fire hydrant and tree at 4:55 a.m. on the 7900 block of Corbin Avenue in Reseda.
He was placed in an induced coma due to smoke inhalation and came out of the coma on Friday. By Monday, he was walking and talking.
“While his journey to full recovery is just beginning, his spirit remains strong and he is surrounded by love and support,” the family said in a statement shared on “Gil’s Arena.” “The Govan and Arenas family are preparing for the road ahead with faith and determination, committed to nurturing Alijah back to 100%. He remains blessed, resilient and in high spirits.”
