Angel City FC falls to Racing Louisville FC

Angel City FC missed an opportunity to pick up ground in its pursuit of a playoff spot, losing 2-1 at Racing Louisville FC on Saturday.

Angel City opened the scoring when midfielder Meggie Dougherty-Howard followed up a rebound with a goal in the 18th minute.

But Louisville responded. In the 28th minute, Bethany Balcer scored on a header to tie the match.

In the second half, Racing Louisville’s Janine Beckie broke the tie with a steal and a 1-on-1 goal in the 68th minute.

With the loss, Angel City slipped to 10th place, four points out of playoff position with 21 points. Louisville jumped ahead of Angel City, into ninth place with 22 points.

Angel City plays next on Monday, Sept. 23 at home against the Portland Thorns.
