After a decade-plus of Angels losses, Tuesday morning’s announcement that Arte Moreno has agreed to sell a controlling interest in the team to Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke has some fans jumping for joy — literally.
The Angels have not made the postseason since 2014, the longest drought in the majors and the second-longest drought in any of the four major North American pro sports.
Throughout the summer, groups of fans have been congregating in the upper reaches of Angel Stadium and chanting “Sell the team.” Now that their wishes have come to fruition, here’s a look at how some Angels enthusiasts were feeling after the big news.
Over the moon
The overwhelming response from the majority of fans was a mixture of unexpected excitement and hope for the team’s future. This change means a lot to many longtime Angels enthusiasts.

Goodbye Arte, hello Stan
Many supporters also were glad to see Arte Moreno’s ownership coming to an end. This deal comes more than four years after he first announced his intention to explore a sale of the team. Moreno reversed course in January 2023.

Anaheim relations
The sale also raises questions about the team’s home and its relationship with the city of Anaheim. Lots of fans want a return to the name it used from 1997 to 2004: the Anaheim Angels.
