(Bloomberg/Mark Gurman) — Apple Inc. rolled out the first end-to-end update to its smartwatch line in three years, debuting upgraded Series 11, Ultra and SE models.
Apple introduced the new smartwatches Tuesday at a product launch event it dubbed “awe dropping,” which also included the iPhone 17 line. The watches will help Apple fend off competition from Garmin Ltd. at the high end and Google’s Fitbit at the low end.
Here are the new features for each of the new Apple Watch models:
Apple Watch Series 11:
- Along with the other models, the watch will get 5G cellular connections. It will have hypertension notifications and sleep scores.
Apple Watch Ultra 3:
- The high-end watch will have a new larger display that’s brighter and easier to read, Apple said. It offers satellite features that let people connect to the internet without a smartphone.
Apple Watch SE:
- The SE will get an always-on display and the speedier S10 chip, as well as faster charging.
The new models go on sale on Sept. 19, with preorders starting Tuesday, Apple said. The Ultra 3 is priced at $799, while the Series 11 starts at $399. The budget-minded SE starts at $249.
Bloomberg News first reported on plans for the new Apple Watches, including the Ultra 3’s satellite mode and the updated Series 11 screen.
