Catalina/Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches and Ventura County Beaches are the focus of a beach hazards statement issued at 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday by the National Weather Service. The statement is valid from Wednesday 5 a.m. until Thursday Aug. 27, at 11 p.m.
“Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected,” according to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. “High tides around 6 feet will occur in the evening hours.”
“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
