Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast and Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast were placed under a beach hazards statement by the National Weather Service on Monday at 12:55 p.m. The statement is valid from Tuesday 3 a.m. until Saturday Dec. 6, at 11 a.m.
“Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected,” according to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. “Minor tidal overflows are possible from 4 a.m. to noon each day through Saturday morning. Elevated surf will be highest Tuesday through Thursday.”
“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
