Bears activate QB Case Keenum from NFI list

Case Keenum didn’t last long on the non-football injury list.

The Bears activated their backup quarterback from the NFI on Sunday, one day after the veteran was one of four players, including cornerback Jaylon Johnson, put on the list. The NFI list is reserved for players who are injured or fall become sick while away from the team.

The Bears signed the 37-year-old Keenum to a one-year deal in April with hopes the veteran would be able to help in Caleb Williams’ development. Keenum spent the last two seasons with the Texans and had an up-close view of C.J. Stroud, who posted one of the best rookie seasons ever by a quarterback in 2023.

Bears rookies and quarterbacks reported to Halas Hall on Saturday. Veterans report Tuesday, one one day before the Bears’ first training camp practice. Keenum will compete with Tyson Bagent for the second-string job, though the Bears are expected to keep three quarterbacks during the regular season.
