In the minutes after Bears head coach Ben Johnson earned Chicagoans free hot dogs from The Wiener’s Circle, his 2-year-old daughter walked toward the television Friday and pointed.
‘‘No shirt,’’ she said.
Johnson’s wife laughed. The rest of Chicago celebrated.
By removing his shirt in the Bears’ locker room to celebrate the 24-15 victory against the Eagles, Johnson earned patrons one free hot dog per person, starting at 11 a.m. Tuesday and lasting until supplies run out.
The Wiener’s Circle had a standing offer to feed people if Johnson went shirtless after it did the same when quarterback Caleb Williams threw four touchdown passes against the Cowboys in September.
‘‘I think any time you get a chance to feed a city, you wanna do it,’’ Johnson said Monday.
Johnson joked that his decision — ‘‘a spur-of-the-moment deal,’’ he said — was in part to show off his body while he still could.
‘‘I figured the sooner, the better,’’ he said. ‘‘I’m not in the weight room much anymore. This thing keeps getting a little bit worse as we go on in the season.’’

Tight end Cole Kmet smiled when describing Johnson removing his shirt, calling it ‘‘bizarre,’’ but he said Johnson was ‘‘pumped up and jacked about it.’’
Johnson seemed uncomfortable with the attention it brought him and took away from the team, but he didn’t regret the move.
‘‘The intent was to bring up the city of Chicago,’’ he said. ‘‘Hopefully it gave them a little bit of excitement because they’re a big part of this journey as we’re going through the season.’’
