Bears coach Ben Johnson’s message to cornerback Kyler Gordon is two words long.
“Get healthy,” he said.
Gordon has been trying. General manager Ryan Poles said that he spent most of his summer break at Halas Hall rehabbing the calf injury that’s bothered him since the spring. But as Bears veterans reported to training camp Tuesday, Gordon remained on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Until he gets back on the field, the Bears know it will be hard to rely on the fifth-year player.
“We’ve got to get it fixed,” Poles said. “And he gets back he has to earn that trust back, and that dependability.”
Gordon, who was the NFL’s highest-paid slot cornerback in April 2025, suffered a delay in his recovery and has no timetable to return.
“He’s frustrated, we’re frustrated,” Poles said.
Injuries to his hamstring, calf and groin injuries limited him to just 11% of the Bears’ snaps in 2025.
