Bears’ next quarterback project: undrafted rookie Miller Moss, the former backup to Caleb Williams

The Bears agreed to a deal with quarterback Caleb Williams’ former backup Miller Moss as an undrafted free agent Saturday. Moss played at Louisville last season, but was behind Williams at USC in 2022 and ’23.

The team has no interest in trading backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, but is always looking to develop talent — and possibly a trade asset — at the game’s most valuable position.

“It’s important to keep making sure we’ve got guys that can come here and add to the competition and guys that we want to pour into so that we can develop, and then we’ll see where it goes,” general manager Ryan Poles said.

They did that with Bagent when they signed him out of Division II Shepherd University as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Bagent has held his ground as the No. 2 quarterback since then and got a two-year, $10 million extension last year.

Moss, 24, is from Santa Monica, California, and began his collegiate career at USC before Williams’ arrival. He completed 64.2% of his passes last season and put up 2,679 yards with 16 touchdown passes and seven interceptions.

The team agreed to a deal to bring in Moss as an undrafted free agent shortly after the draft.
