What happened Tuesday at Halas Hall:
Monangai out, Scott up
Kyle Monangai, who is battling a toe injury, was not present at the portion of Tuesday’s walk-through that was open to the media.
Minutes before practice began, the Bears promoted another running back, Zavier Scott, from the practice squad. Scott had appeared in three games via a standard game day elevation, the maximum number any team can do that without signing a player to the 53-man roster. Scott is not a Monangai replacement, however; he’s yet to play an offensive snap this season but has played 46 special teams snaps, forcing one fumble and making five tackles.
The Bears don’t have to file an injury report until Thursday.
Seahawks get help
The Seahawks — the Bears’ opponent Monday night — made the first big trade of the season, sending a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-rounder to the Colts for eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quentin Nelson. Nelson is in the last year of his contract. Interim general manager Ed Dodds figures to keep selling, with defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and running back Jonathan Taylor among the most attractive pieces on the roster. The NFL’s trade deadline is in two weeks.
Others out
Rookie Malik Muhammad, who left Thursday night’s win against the Patriots because of his own toe injury, did not practice Tuesday. Neither did fellow cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who has dealt with various injuries since the start of training camp. The Bears were without cornerback Nick McCloud, too — they cut him to make room for Scott.
