Bears still expect injured CBs Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon to return this season

The Bears still plan on cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon returning this season, coach Ben Johnson said Wednesday.

When that happens, though, he’s not quite sure.

“We should be able to get them back at some point at the end of the season here,” he said. “To be determined on when the clocks start ticking here.”

The coach said he saw Johnson, the two-time Pro Bowl player, in the weight room Wednesday and that the cornerback is “hopeful” he can return to practice sometime soon.

Johnson had surgery to fix a groin injury that he suffered in Week 2 after missing training camp with a problem with a different part of his groin. Gordon has a hamstring issue.

Combine them with a season-ending injury to Terell Smith during training camp, and the Bears cornerback depth has been tested all season. The team signed slot cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson out of free agency two weeks ago, and he has three sacks in two games.

The Bears play the Vikings on Sunday.
