BH Wood-Fired Grill in Walnut Creek abruptly closes 7 months after reopening

Seven months after reopening, BH Wood-Fired Grill in Walnut Creek has shut its doors.

“After much thought and reflection, we have made the difficult decision to close BH Wood-Fired Grill in Walnut Creek,” the restaurant announced on Instagram. “We are incredibly grateful for the support, loyalty, and memories shared with us over the years. Serving this community has been an honor, and we’re proud of the experiences we’ve created together.”

BH Wood-Fired Grill was the sister restaurant of Bounty Hunter Wine Bar & Smokin’ BBQ in Napa.

It had originally opened as Bounty Hunter Walnut Creek just before the pandemic hit, but never found momentum. It closed last September and re-opened in December after rebranding.

The restaurant added to the interior and completely changed its menu, heavily leaning into its wood-fired grill.

“We wanted to make something that would be consistent quality every time you come,” Ryan Cole, co-founder of the restaurant’s management team, Hi Neighbor Hospitality Group, said in January. “We don’t want to change the menu all the time. We want to change it seasonally. But we want it to be like, ‘I’m craving beef carpaccio, so I want to come in, sit at the bar, get a glass of wine, and it’s going to be the same thing every time.

“I’d rather hang my hat on consistent quality over innovation right now.”

The new menu focused on steak and seafood and paired it with a robust Napa wine list and cocktail menu and was met with positive reviews on Google, where the restaurant had a 4.8 star rating before announcing its closure.
