Blue Note launches Los Angeles venue with Robert Glasper opening

Blue Note Jazz Club, one of the world’s best-known venues for jazz and genre-blending performance, will open a Los Angeles location this summer.

The new club opens Aug. 14 in Hollywood with a week of shows from five-time Grammy winner Robert Glasper, who also serves as the venue’s creative ambassador.

Located on Sunset Boulevard, the Los Angeles outpost will mark the latest expansion of the Blue Note brand, which began in New York in 1981 and now includes clubs in Tokyo, Milan, Napa, and Rio de Janeiro. The West Coast location will host performances twice nightly at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in a 200-capacity main showroom.

A secondary space, called the B-Side Room, will open later with additional programming.

The inaugural 2025 season features an eclectic mix of jazz, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists, with upcoming shows and residencies by Andra Day, Killer Mike, Ben Folds, Charlie Puth, Esperanza Spalding, Branford Marsalis, GoldLink, Alex Isley, Tank and the Bangas, Ravi Coltrane, Mayer Hawthorne, Charles Lloyd, The Soul Rebels with Too $hort, Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin with Kenyon Dixon, The Free Nationals, 1500 or Nothin’, and James Fauntleroy, among others.

Blue Note’s programming will follow its signature artist-focused model while adapting to the city’s distinct creative culture.

“Blue Note LA will focus on curated and consistent, artist-driven programming in that intimate Blue Note Jazz Club vibe that people love. Blue Note New York has a uniquely New York energy, and for Blue Note LA, it’s important to honor what makes this city’s creative energy and spirit so distinctive. Blue Note embraces the space to collaborate and experience those spontaneous moments that are special. We’re thankful to all the artists and their teams who are a part of this opening season of shows. They’re helping set the tone to launch Blue Note LA,” said Alex Kurland, Director of Programming at Blue Note Entertainment Group, in a press release.

Designed by Legeard Studio, the venue blends mid-century modern aesthetics with the atmosphere of a classic jazz club. In addition to live music, it will feature a full kitchen led by chef Asaf Maoz Carmel, serving globally influenced food. A cocktail program with modern takes on jazz-era classics will also be available, with weekend brunch and nightly dinner service.

Founded in New York’s Greenwich Village, Blue Note has long been a destination for both legendary and emerging artists. Over the years, it has hosted surprise appearances from performers such as Stevie Wonder, Ed Sheeran and Chris Rock.
