Boy, 13, charged with wounding 4 in kids in Bronzeville mass shooting

A 13-year-old boy was charged Monday with shooting four other children Saturday in Bronzeville on the South Side.

The teen allegedly pulled a gun around 9:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of South Prairie Avenue and opened fire on four boys, according to Chicago police. Responding officers later found the four boys with gunshot wounds.

An 11-year-old boy was struck in his leg, and a 13-year-old boy was shot in his foot, police said. They were both taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition.

Another 13-year-old boy was also shot in his leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. A 14-year-old was grazed in his back and taken to Comer in fair condition.

The boy charged in the attack was arrested about 20 minutes later in the 4600 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to police. He was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a weapon and having a gun without a valid license to own one.

He was expected to appear at a detention hearing Monday in juvenile court, police said.
