Boy, 14, shot inside Roseland home

A 14-year-old boy was critically wounded in a shooting at a Roseland Home Tuesday night on the Far South Side.

Officers responding to calls of a person shot around 10:35 p.m. found the teen inside a home in the 300 block of West 106th Street, Chicago police said.

He was shot in the head and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was in critical condition, police said.

Joyce Gibson has lived on the block for roughly a year and said the neighborhood is mostly quiet. “It makes me nervous,” Gibson, 24, said of the shooting happening hear her home.

Joyce Gibson, a neighbor of the boy who was shot in the 300 block of West 106th St. in Roseland Tuesday night, speaks to a reporter on the block, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025.

“I grew up in areas impacted by violence,” Gibson said.

Other neighbors say the family has lived there for about the year and the boy would occasionally make runs to the store or play football outside.

“It broke my heart,” said one 29-year-old resident who didn’t want to be named. “They take care of everyone.”

No one was in custody.

Area 2 detectives are investigating.
