A five-year-old was left with a hole in his skull after an e-scooter collided with his bike.

Henry Jackson was playing on his bike outside his home in Northamptonshire when he collided with an electric scooter, causing him to fall off his bike, police say.

The family say he was rushed to the hospital with a fractured skull to undergo surgery to remove bone fragments and debris from his head, and the young boy has been left with a 3-4cm hole in his skull.

After six days in the hospital, Henry was able to return home and is expected to make a full recovery.

Northamptonshire Police confirmed that a 33-year-old man was arrested on May 10 in connection with a serious collision between the rider of an e-scooter and a child on a bicycle, but has now been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Henry’s brother, Jamie Argent, 19, who works as a roofer, said: ‘Henry is proper bright, bubbly and just gets along with everyone, no matter who they are.

‘He was just playing outside on his bike, and the next minute his clothes were all covered in blood, it was so scary.

‘When I went to visit him in hospital, he was all wrapped up in bandages, he looked so drained and had no energy,’ he added.

Jamie said the scene was ‘traumatic’, but the family is glad to have Henry back home and acting as his ‘lively self’.

The brother added: ‘I think there should be much stricter rules for e-scooters.’

Henry was rushed to Northampton General Hospital and then transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, where he underwent a two-hour surgery to remove bone fragments and debris from his skull.

He now has a 3-4cm hole in his skull, but doctors were unable to put in a metal plate to cover the hole, due to Henry’s age and size.

Henry is expected to make a full recovery, but will have to be very careful with his head for the rest of his life, as he is missing part of his skull.

Jamie now believes there should be much stricter regulations in place for e-scooters to prevent further accidents like Henry’s.

His family are now raising money to get Henry a brand-new bike, as they say his old bike was destroyed during the crash, and to support him during his recovery.
