Blues Extend Schenn

Schenn was originally selected fifth overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2009 NHL Draft. He was traded along with Wayne Simmonds to the Philadelphia Flyers for Mike Richards in 2011. During the off-season of 2017, the Blues acquired the forward from the Flyers. In his first season with the team, he had career highs in points (70), goals (28), and assists (42).

Last season was a down year for the Schenn. In 72 games with the Blues, he recorded 54 points (17 goals and 37 assists). During the Blues run to the Stanley Cup, Schenn recorded 12 points (five goals and seven assists) in 26 games.

During his career, Schenn appeared in 588 games including playing in 79 or more games in five of the last six years. In his career, Schenn put up 372 points (154 goals, 218 assists) to go along with 26 points (eight goals, 18 assists) in 50 career postseason games.

Going Forward

Schenn is entering the final year of his four-year, $20.5 million contract that he signed with the Flyers back in 2016. He has a current salary-cap hit is $5.125 million and was set to become an unrestricted free agent in July of 2020. He is the first of many UFAs are off the board.

Schenn is a top-six forward in the league and the number one centre on the Blues. The Blues are in a good situation having Schenn for the next eight-years. While it is a lot to pay for him when he gets older, Schenn could have received more on the open market.
