The operation to try to find the other missing Brit is ongoing.

Police were earlier trying to establish their whereabouts by triangulating the pair’s mobile phones.

They were said to have been near the Torrent de Paris, a river in the Tramuntana mountain range on Majorca’s northwest coast, when they vanished.

Parts of the island have been affected by severe flooding following heavy rain.

A spokesman for a regional government-run emergency services coordination centre said earlier this morning: “A search is ongoing for two hikers missing since last night in the vicinity of Torrent de Pareis in Escorca.”

Civil Guard officers and firefighters are understood to be involved in the ongoing operation.

It comes after a British man drowned while scuba diving off the coast of Lanzarote.

Emergency responders rushed to pull the tourist from the water at the popular Playa Chica beach but were unable to revive him.

Meanwhile, an American soldier died in a horror plunge from a hotel rooftop in Greece.

The 30-year-old was reportedly on an official visit to the town of Chania, in the popular island of Crete.

It is understood the US trooper died around 5am on Saturday.

He reportedly fell from the roof of the hotel he was staying in the Old Town area.

Emergency services were called to the scene but arrived “too late” to save the man’s life, Proto Thema reports.

Local authorities have been informed about the incident and are currently investigating it, the Greek paper added.

The exact cause of his death is not yet known.
