A British journalist who went missing in Brazil has been found after four months in a hostel in Sao Paulo.

Charlotte Alice Peet, who was working for Al Jazeera and British news outlets, was found alive on Monday after going missing in February.

Police said she had ‘expressed her desire not to have contact with her family’, and had flown out to South America without telling them.

The 32-year-old had been seen boarding a bus from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, and was also spotted at a bar Copacabana Beach.

She was last heard from after messaging a friend saying she was preparing to travel to Rio and was looking for somewhere to stay.

Charlotte has ‘expressed her desire not to have contact with her family’

Charlotte then failed to respond to any further messages, including from her worried family.

Charlotte’s father Derek Peet told Sky News after she was reported missing that she had flown to Brazil without telling her family.

He said: ‘I wouldn’t say that it was normal, there was something on her mind obviously otherwise she would have let us know.’

‘It’s very worrying but I don’t have any more to say, I’m very concerned but I just don’t know what’s going on, we’re just trying to pick up the pieces really.’
