A British man has been stabbed during a brawl outside a beach club near the city of Phuket in Thailand in the early hours of this morning.
Louis Johe Jarvie suffered multiple wounds after he got into a fight while drinking at a bar in Maya Beach, in Cherng Talay.
Bleeding heavily, the 34-year-old staggered out of the building screaming for help before collapsing in front of a restaurant at around 12.20 am local time.
When paramedics arrived, they found the victim slumped against a chair as blood kept gushing from his side, pooling onto the pavement.
The injuries included three large lacerations on the left arm, a large wound on the shoulder, and a stab wound on the right side of the back.
Louis was barely conscious as he was rushed to Thalang Hospital, where he is still recovering from his injuries.
Than Sirichai, a local volunteer paramedic, said: ‘At around 12.11am, we received a report that a foreign national had been injured in a stabbing incident, sustaining multiple severe bleeding wounds.
‘Upon arrival, we found a British man sitting on the ground. He was barely conscious and required constant stimulation to stay awake.’
A hunt is now ongoing to trace his attacker, who fled the scene before the police arrived.
‘Witnesses said they saw a large foreign man stab the British man in the arm,’ the force said in a statement. ‘The victim is now feeling better but is not ready to respond.’
Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to identify and apprehend the suspect.
Lt Col Kittipong admitted that they still not have a description of the man as ‘visibility at the beach was poor at the time,’ local media reported.
The incident follows a series of recent tourist deaths in Phuket, which has raised concerns about safety and security.
Locals claim the push for tourist money is attracting crowds of ‘low-quality’ visitors.
There are also fears that the island has become an enclave of criminal activity, with police unable to control street fights and more organised ruffians setting up rackets among local businesses.
Many of the new arrivals have been deserters from Russia and Ukraine looking for safer countries during the war in their homeland.
Phuket is one of the most visited island destinations in the world, famous for its white-sand beaches, luxury resorts and nightlife in Patong.
It received an estimated 13 million visitors in 2024, with the total number set to jump by the end of this year
As of July 2025, the island had already welcomed 7.6 million visitors, driven primarily by tourists from Russia, China, and India.
