A British woman has died at the adults-only Ibiza Rocks Hotel following the opening of the party season in the Spanish resort.

The 33-year-old had collapsed in her room in the resort of San Antonio on Wednesday evening.

An alarm was raised at around 6.30pm and it was not long after that police and paramedics rushed to the hotel.

The tourist was unconscious and not breathing. Emergency services spent around 40 minutes performing CPR on her to try to revive her, but without success.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to save her life proved unsuccessful.

An investigation is ongoing but sources close to the case said there was nothing at this stage pointing to her death being suspicious.

Spanish media reported that the unnamed woman was suffering health problems.

It is understood that she had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, a small battery-powered device fitted under the collarbone to monitor heart beats and treat abnormal heart rhythms using electric impulses.

It is commonly used by people at high risk of serious arrhythmias and it delivers a shock if it detects one.

This is the second death to take place in Ibiza Rocks Hotel in just 72 hours.

A 19-year-old Italian tourist of Turkish origin plunged to her death from the fourth floor of the three-star property overnight on Sunday.

She had flown to the island the previous day and gone out partying. She is said to have been trying to reach her room via a balcony from a shared area of the hotel after realising she did not have her key card.

The teenager lost her footing and fell, and her lifeless body was discovered around 9am on Sunday morning.

An investigation by police into that incident is ongoing.
