The 51-year-old dad-of-one and building contractor was driving down a country lane with a friend when he suddenly lost control of the sports car.
It flipped and landed upside down in an irrigation canal beside the road at around 2 pm on Saturday in Concordia Sagittaria, a town northeast of Venice.
The car quickly filled with water and mud.
Horrified witnesses called the emergency services.
Luca’s wife and son also became concerned when he did not return home or pick up his phone.
Luca’s friend was freed by rescuers from the front passenger seat and taken to a local hospital.
He remains in hospital with serious injuries but his condition is not said to be life-threatening.
While rescuers managed to free Luca from the driver’s seat, he was unresponsive.
Paramedics were unable to revive him.
It is reported that he drowned in 28 inches of water.
Luca, from Concordia Sagittaria, is survived by his parents.
He was the last of his siblings to die after his two brothers tragically passed away from serious illnesses.
He will be buried on Wednesday.
The wrecked Lambo has been pulled from the ditch and is being examined by detectives to determine whether mechanical failure or human error caused Luca to lose control.
Local Italian media reported that he may have been speeding or lost control on a tricky stretch of road before the crash.
The owners of his favourite restaurant in Concordia Sagittaria told local media: “He was a special person – kind, thoughtful.
“He was always there when someone needed help.”
