Cal State Long Beach student stabbed to death by roommate, officials say

A 22-year-old Cal State Long Beach student died after one of his roommates stabbed him over the weekend, officials said Thursday, Oct. 9.

The stabbing killed Spencer Timms and injured another roommate, who was hospitalized but stable, according to a Long Beach Police Department news release.

“We are profoundly saddened by the loss of our student, Spencer Timms,” said Jeffrey Cook, a university spokesperson. “We have been in touch with Spencer’s family, and have been reaching out to and supporting his Beach classmates and faculty.”

Officers responded around 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 to the 1300 block of Temple Avenue, where they found the two victims. Timms was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested Alejandro Iniestra, 34, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. His bail was set at $2 million.

Police didn’t release a motive for the stabbing. University officials and police didn’t specify if any other students were involved in the stabbing.
