A man suspected in car-to-car shootings on the 405 Freeway in Carson and Harbor Gateway was arrested before sunrise on Friday, May 29.
Officers assigned to the South Los Angeles Area began investigating allegations of a man committing multiple shootings on the freeway, identifying Martin Moreno-Pacheco as the suspect, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Moreno-Pacheco was located at approximately 3:40 a.m. Friday, after officers observed him in the suspected vehicle.
Police said during the investigation that officers discovered a loaded BB gun inside the passenger compartment, but no injuries were reported.
The initial shooting incident occurred on May 22. One victim of the alleged attacks reported the shooting to officers at the South Los Angeles Area office around 11 a.m. Tuesday, which occurred Saturday on the 405 Freeway at Wilmington Avenue in Carson.
The victim told officers that the shooting was unprovoked, resulting in damage to the victim’s vehicle.
Then, on Thursday at around 5:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Communications Center was dispatched regarding another car-to-car shooting on the 405 Freeway, south of Vermont Avenue in the Harbor Gateway area, resulting in damage to the victim’s vehicle.
Based on an extensive investigation, officers determined that Moreno-Pacheco was connected to the shootings. He was also suspected of driving a black pickup truck at those times.
