Catherine Zeta-Jones really said having four mansions isn’t ‘excessive’

Mark down Catherine Zeta-Jones as a finalist for most Clueless Celebrity of 2026 after she said it’s not “excessive” for her and her husband Michael Douglas to own four homes together, including a 200-acre luxury “compound” on the Spanish island of Mallorca, which is said to be worth about $32 million.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Zeta-Jones, 55, briefly addressed her international property portfolio with her 80-year-old Oscar-winning husband.

“I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” Zeta-Jones insisted to the Times. The Welsh actor, an Oscar winner herself for the 2002 film musical “Chicago,”  is in the midst of a career renaissance, with a starring role as Morticia Addams in the Netflix series “Wednesday.”

When not working, Zeta-Jones said she and Douglas like to spend much of their time in Mallorca, where they believe they can escape the pressures of celebrity life, according to the Times. There, they occupy the Moorish-style Villa S’Estaca, with its seven buildings, sparkling swimming pool and multiple terraces offering Mediterranean views.

But if Zeta-Jones and Douglas are not in the mood for Spain, they can also get “comfortable” in their “sprawling” Central Park penthouse in New York City, or in their mansion overlooking the Hudson River in Westchester County, or at their winter chateau in Quebec, Canada.

For years, the couple were known to regularly jet down (but not in “a jet set” way) to their “summer estate” in Bermuda — set in “a parklike” oasis. That’s where they largely raised their now-adult children, Dylan, 25, Cameron, 46, and Carys, 22, according to the Times. Zeta-Jones complained that New York City was “too hot” in the summertime, while the social calendar in the Hamptons could be “exhausting,” so they decamped to Bermuda. But they reportedly put this property on the market for $10.75 million in January.

According to Zeta-Jones, she also enjoys other simple, non-“excessive” pleasures, like “organizing — and stocking — her numerous wardrobes” with items she picks up during trips to Paris. She said she likes to browse vintage shops there, where she buys “things that you are probably never going to wear” — just own — “like a gorgeous cape, just great pieces.”

While Zeta-Jones admitted she also loves “classic Yves Saint Laurent at the moment,” as well as stocking up on evening gowns, she again insists she avoids excess by never spending more than $250 on a white T-shirt.

“Nah,” she said, as she also revealed that she has the “biggest” Fendi baguette bag collection. That is, a collection of stylish little designer handbags that, even “used,” tend to retail at $1,000 or more.
