SAN JOSE — San Jose Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said Macklin Celebrini is expected to be OK after the 18-year-old forward left Tuesday’s practice early with what was described as a minor lower-body ailment.
“He’ll be fine,” Warsofsky said, adding that he expects Celebrini to practice Wednesday.
But forward Thomas Bordeleau might not be ready to start the season after he suffered a lower-body injury in a recent camp practice. Warsofsky described Bordeleau’s status as more week-to-week.
Bordeleau did not skate Tuesday after he sat out the Sharks’ first preseason game on Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights at SAP Center. The Sharks host the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night, the second of their six preseason games, and begin the regular season on Oct. 10 at home against the St. Louis Blues.
The 22-year-old Bordeleau, now in his third full professional season, had a solid start for camp last week and is competing to be one of the final few forwards chosen for the Sharks’ 23-man roster.
Bordeleau played 27 games for the Sharks last season, splitting time between the NHL and the Barracuda of the AHL. After the Sharks recalled him from the AHL on March 7 of last season, Bordeleau played in all 21 of the team’s games down the stretch, scoring nine points and averaging 15:34 in ice time.
