Chaminade senior Noah Scavo led the golfers from the Daily News area Thursday at the CIF-SCGA SoCal Boys Golf Championship by shooting a 6-under-par 68 at Los Serranos Golf Club to qualify for next week’s CIF State Championship.
Scavo tied for second among individual golfers and earned one of nine individual qualifying spots for the state championships by finishing at 6 under. Sunny Hills’ Cole Kim won the individual title at 9 under, and Sunny Hills won the team championship.
Scavo was 3 under after his front nine. After carding a bogey on the 11th hole to drop to 2 under, he recorded consecutive birdies to get to 4 under before making an eagle on the par-5 18th to finish his round at 6 under.
Crespi was well represented at Thursday’s regional with six participants. Ben Adelman had the lowest round among the Celts with a 1-under 73.
Adelman began his round strong and was 3 under through eight holes, but he recorded bogeys on the par-3 ninth and par-4 10th to fall back to 1 under before finishing his afternoon with eight straight pars. His 1-under round put him in a tie for 26th place.
Vince Arciaga and Grant Leary each finished at 1 over, while Ayden Loke and Brendon Narahara ended their days at 6 over and 7 over, respectively.
Closing out the day for Crespi was sophomore Valentino Garcia, who had a difficult afternoon and finished at 30 over. He was able to record a par on the par-5 16th hole.
Crescenta Valley’s Nathan Lee shot an even-par 74 to cap an impressive closing stretch to his freshman season.
Lee also had a solid showing at last week’s CIF Southern Section Individual Final, quickly getting to 2 under and staying near the top of the leaderboard before falling back to even par to finish in a tie for 26th place.
Thursday’s round followed a similar pattern for Lee, who was 2 under after his front nine before two bogeys on the back nine dropped him to even par for the day.
Austin Adler and Victor Simon were two of 10 area golfers to compete in the regional, both representing Granada Hills Charter and the CIF L.A. City Section.
Adler finished at 14 over and recorded five pars during his round, while Simon ended his day at 18 over with two pars on his back nine.
Scavo will cap his senior season Wednesday, June 3, at the CIF State Championships at San Gabriel Country Club.
He is committed to play college golf at San Jose State.
