Check is not in the mail for two Saratoga residents

Aug. 11

Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to access the victim’s bank account and withdrew money for a total loss of about $30,000.

Aug. 12

Vandalism: At 3:20 a.m., someone broke a window of a vehicle parked in the 18000 block of Paseo Lado, causing damage estimated at over $1,000.

Aug. 13

Theft by false pretenses: A Saratoga resident reported that someone emailed them posing as a representative with an online payment company, claimed $10,000 was mistakenly deposited into the victim’s account, and then instructed the victim to mail cash to an unknown address in Southern California, to which the victim complied, for a total loss of about $9,500.

Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to obtain bank and cellular phone service accounts. No financial loss was reported.

Forgery: A Saratoga resident reported mailing out a check more than a week earlier from their residence in the 12000 block of Jolene Court. Someone obtained that check and then altered, forged and cashed the check for a loss of about $6,383.

Mail theft, forgery: The victim reported mailing out a check more than a week earlier using a mailbox at the US Post Office on Allendale Avenue. Someone obtained that check and then altered, forged and cashed the check for a loss of about $900.

Aug. 14

Commercial burglary: At 4:35 a.m., the suspect entered Saratoga Eyes on Big Basin Way by breaking a glass door and stole glasses.

Aug. 15

Residential burglary: Between 1:12 p.m. and 2:18 p.m., someone entered a residence in the 19000 block of Gunther Court through an unlocked screen door and stole jewelry.
