Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus mourns loss of member in fatal hit-and-run in Lake View

The Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus is grieving the loss of one of its leaders as police continue searching for the driver who fatally struck them last weekend in Lake View.

Brendan Siddall, 26, was found unresponsive in the roadway early Saturday in the 3600 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Chicago police.

Police have shared photos of a white, 2019 Honda Accord in which they say the driver was traveling north and fled without stopping. A police department spokesperson had no updates on the investigation Wednesday afternoon.

Siddall joined the chorus in 2018 and “quickly became a vibrant and vital part of our community,” said Kevin Corbett, Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus managing director.

“A gifted performer, Brendan lit up the stage in several performances, sharing their talent and energy with joy and authenticity,” Corbett said in a statement.

Police say the driver of this vehicle struck and killed Brendan Siddall over the weekend.

Siddall served as the president of the chorus’ membership council.

The Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, founded in 1983, is a performing arts group comprising LGBTQ+ singers that has traveled across the U.S. and explored an array of musical theater styles, while focusing on issues relevant to the LGBTQ+ community.

Siddall’s “commitment to the chorus ran deep — evident in their tireless volunteerism, unwavering support, and the countless ways they showed up for others,” Corbett said. “Brendan had a unique gift for making people feel welcomed, seen, and valued. Their warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew them.”

“We mourn the loss of a beautiful soul whose presence made CGMC a more loving and inclusive place. Brendan will be deeply missed, but their spirit will continue to resonate in the music we make and the community we cherish.”

Siddall also worked overnights with the residents at Misericordia Heart of Mercy, according to ABC7-Chicago.

An autopsy to determine Siddall’s cause of death was still pending Wednesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
