Chicago man charged with DUI in fatal crash that killed Wheaton man on Eisenhower Expressway

A Chicago man has been charged with DUI after a fatal accident early Sunday on the Eisenhower Expressway that killed a man and injured at least six others, including himself, on the Near West Side.

Jose F. Perez Marin, 21, faces three charges of felony aggravated DUI with enhancements because a person was killed and because he didn’t have a valid license at the time of the crash, Illinois State Police said in a statement.

Perez Marin allegedly rear-ended a Toyota SUV with his GMC SUV around 3 a.m. on westbound I-290 just west of Ashland Avenue, state police said. It allegedly caused the vehicles to hit two others, which also then crashed.

Benjamin M. Farraday, the 25-year-old Wheaton resident driving the Toyota, was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, police said.

Perez Marin is being held in custody as he awaits trial, state police said.
