Saturday was supposed to be a landmark day for Chief Keef fans.
Fans from Chicago and beyond arrived at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in their best outfits to see the rapper’s first show within the city limits in more than a decade.
As massive groups of spectators lined up in front of the entrance for the Chief Keef Live 2026 Tour kickoff concert, the venue posted a message on its Instagram account around 6 p.m. that the show was delayed. About an hour later, another message appeared saying Keef would not be performing at all.
“Chief Keef’s September 12th performance at Huntington Bank Pavilion has been postponed,” the post read. “All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date.”
A Live Nation statement provided to the Sun-Times indicated the show was postponed because of undisclosed “traveling issues” and concern over violating the city’s curfew ordinance.
“Due to traveling issues, the show was postponed because of curfew, and Keef wouldn’t have landed in enough time to give an adequate performance,” the statement said. “The venue made the call to postpone the show. Even with the fans being disappointed, they left peacefully.”
The unexpected announcement disappointed those who traveled far and waited years to see Chief Keef in Chicago.
Brandon, a Chicago artist who only provided his first name, observed some fans crying over the news. “They were really sad about it,” he said.
For others, missing out on the concert was especially difficult because of how much time and money they invested trying to attend.
“After so many years, after being banned, this is your hometown,” said Brogan, another fan, after learning Chief Keef would not perform. “It’s your opening for your tour. You’d think you would be here hours earlier.”
Huntington Bank Pavilion announced in a social media statement late Saturday that the show has been rescheduled for Sept. 23.
“Chief Keef fans, we’re very sorry that we were not able to get the show in tonight due to travel delays,” according to the statement. “The show has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 23rd. We look forward to seeing you then.”
