Cinespia kicks off 25th season Memorial Day weekend at Hollywood Forever

Los Angeles outdoor movie series Cinespia is returning to Hollywood Forever Cemetery for its 25th season, kicking off Memorial Day weekend with Steven Spielberg’s “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” as the longtime outdoor series launches another summer of films.

Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, the season will continue throughout the summer with cult favorites, anniversary screenings, and themed experiences at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Moviegoers can expect returning Cinespia staples, including DJ sets before and after screenings, themed photo booths, concessions, and a beer and wine bar. For the season opener, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” will include themed photo opportunities and movie-inspired concessions, including Reese’s Pieces candy. “Moulin Rouge!” will bring themed experiences inspired by the Baz Luhrmann musical, while “Mulholland Drive” will serve as a tribute screening honoring filmmaker David Lynch at the cemetery where Lynch is laid to rest.

The season will continue into June with specialty touches tied to upcoming screenings. “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” will include music inspired by the film’s era, “The Matrix” screening will feature themed photo opportunities, and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” will return as a Pride Month screening celebrating the cult classic musical.

What began in 2002 as a single screening attended by a few hundred guests has grown into one of Los Angeles’ longest-running outdoor film events. The organization now hosts more than 30 events annually and has welcomed hundreds of thousands of moviegoers over its 25 seasons. Screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery take place on the Fairbanks Lawn, with films projected against the Cathedral Mausoleum wall.

Upcoming screenings include:

May 23: “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”

May 24: “Moulin Rouge!”

May 30: “Mulholland Drive”

June 6: “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”

June 13: “The Matrix”

June 20: “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” (Pride Month screening)
