A Colorado Springs man accused of jumping over a casino counter in Cripple Creek and stealing more than $76,000 was arrested this week, according to court documents.
Andrew Irvine, 26, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of burglary and theft, according to his arrest affidavit.
A Cripple Creek police officer responded to a panic alarm tripped at J.P. McGill’s Hotel and Casino at about 4:10 a.m. Monday, according to the document. When the officer arrived, the casino manager told him the casino had been robbed.
Surveillance video in the casino showed Irvine entering minutes before the burglary, before leaving and quickly returning with a mask concealing most of his face, according to the affidavit.
One casino staff member said Irvine jumped over the cashier cage counter “just like last time” and stole cash from the drawer before fleeing on foot, police wrote in the affidavit.
The employee was referring to an incident on July 19, where Irvine jumped over the counter and was pushed away by the cashier before he could steal anything, police said. Irvine fled, and an arrest warrant was issued for him at that time.
During the alleged August burglary, Irvine ran out of the casino, through the parking garage and east toward the Double Eagle Hotel and Casino less than half a mile up the road, the affidavit stated.
Investigators estimated he escaped with $76,800. Colorado Springs officers later found Irvine at his home and arrested him.
Officers with a search warrant found clothing in Irvine’s home matching the items worn by the masked suspect on the surveillance video in both the July and August incidents, police said.
Irvine has not been charged, but is scheduled to appear in Teller County District Court on Sept. 8 for hearings on both cases, according to court records.
He is being held on a $25,000 bail, court records show. As of Thursday, he had not yet posted bond.
