Every animal deserves a second chance – some are just waiting a little longer for theirs to begin.

Meet Grant, a 2-year-old spirited black Labrador retriever. He may tip the scales at just over 90 pounds, but he’s convinced he is lapdog material. He has been waiting patiently at Pasadena Humane for someone to notice just how special he is, and it’s a mystery to us all why he has yet to be adopted.

With his big smile and joyful personality, Grant is the kind of dog who makes friends wherever he goes. He is gentle when taking treats, does well walking on a leash, and is a big fan of tennis balls, squeaky toys, and belly rubs. He may have the build of a large dog, but he is a complete softie who longs to be by your side. Grant checks so many boxes – it’s hard to believe he is still waiting.

Grant is just one of more than 350 animals that will be looking for a new home at our Free Adoption Day this Saturday.

One of my favorite things about big adoption events is seeing all the amazing people who come together to make a difference in the lives of animals in our community. I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful adopters, the volunteers who help make these events a success, and of course, our dedicated staff who work so hard for the animals.

Whether you are a first-time adopter or looking to add another member to your family, now is a great time to bring home a new pet. Here are five reasons to adopt a shelter pet this fall:

Grant and all the other amazing pets we have at the shelter right now hope you’ll stop by this weekend. Our adoption team is ready to find you a wonderful, loving companion.

Our final Free Adoption Day of the year is this Saturday, October 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’ll be waiving the adoption fee for all available dogs, cats and critters. Our regular adoption screening process still applies, ensuring all pets are matched with great homes.

I hope to see you there!
