A comedian has doubled down after a joke he made led to the cancellation of his show.

Andrew Lawrence made the joke about Monday’s Liverpool victory parade crash, which left 79 people injured, including four children.

He wrote: ‘To be fair, if I was in Liverpool, I’d drive through crowds of people to get the f**k out of there as well’.

In response, Caddies Southend, the venue where he was due to perform, cancelled his performance.

They said: ‘The event organisers who had hired our Comedy Club for the Andrew Lawrence night have cancelled the event.

‘We do not condone or support the comment that has been made online, and we send everyone impacted by the tragic events in Liverpool our support and prayers.’

Andrew received backlash in July 2021 after posting, ‘all I’m saying is the white guys scored’, following England’s defeat to Ital in Euro finals.

After receiving heavy criticism, he responded: ‘I can see that this has offended a lot of people, and I’m sorry that black guys are bad at penalties.’

But after his latest offensive joke, Andrew accused the venue of ‘losing their courage’.

He said: ‘Understandable, but disappointing. I will reschedule for later in the year at a different venue Southend, sorry for the inconvenience, have a great day.’

The Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance described Lawrence as ‘an embarrassment to the comedic profession.’

Sharing his X post, they said: ‘Can we make sure this person never works in Liverpool, absolutely disgusting.’

He posted the joke just hours before police revealed that several people are still in hospital two days after a Ford Galaxy drove into football fans in Water Street.

Four children are among the injured, including one who was trapped under the car.

A 53-year-old man has been arrested for attempted murder, drug driving, and other dangerous driving offences.
