At 16-year-old girl was among three people injured after a man opened fire at a shopping centre on Black Friday.
Shoppers reported ‘complete chaos’ in the Westfield Valley Fair shopping mall in San Jose, California last night.
The teenager along with a man and woman were both taken to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Local authorities described the incident as ‘isolated’, the Sun reported.
Sergeant Jorge Garibay said: ‘This was not targeted at unsuspecting shoppers.”
‘Something occurred between two individuals that prompted the shooting.’
Shopper Daniel Chen described the manic scenes as the suspect opened fire.
‘I was terrified. We were freaking out. Everyone was just screaming’, he said.
‘It was complete chaos — it was crazy. I was making sure that the three of us were together and that we weren’t leaving each other behind.’
The centre was evacuated around an hour after the incident, which reportedly occurred at around 5pm.
Shawn Kulasingham described hearing a loud pop before the building shook as people rushed to the exits in a ‘stampede’.
San Jose mayor Matt Mahan said: ‘This is not the news I wanted to share with you this holiday weekend.
‘My prayers are with these victims and I know our officers are doing everything they can to find the person responsible and hold them accountable.’
