Confirmed measles case reported in Kane County

A Kane County resident recently contracted measles, according to the county’s health department.

The resident, who was unvaccinated against the virus, is no longer infectious, according to a statement from the Kane County Health Department.

The statement included two possible exposure locations:

There have been five measles cases reported in the state so far this year, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Two unvaccinated Pennsylvania residents died from measles, state health officials reported on Tuesday. Those are the first two deaths tied to the virus so far this year in the U.S.

Measles was once considered to be eradicated in the country. But cases have been on the rise in recent years. In 2025, the U.S. had more reported measles cases and deaths since 1992, according to KFF.
