U.S. Representative Don Bacon (R-NE) has been a loud critic of President Trump and his policies particularly regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. Today, with a link to The Wall Street Journal article titled ‘Make Money Not War: Trump’s Real Plan for Peace in Ukraine,’ the retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General wrote: “Multi-billion $$ business deals between Russian & American billionaires that forces Ukraine to give Russia more land, & make Ukraine a Russian vassal state. Greed trumps Ukrainian sovereignty. Churchill & Reagan are turning in their graves.”
When asked by a follower on X, “What can Congress do?”, Bacon replied “First, shine a spotlight. Truth wins.” When another replied, “I would like a ceasefire,” Bacon replied, “Ukraine has wanted one on the current lines. Russia refuses.”
Social media influencer John Jackson, former Republican and U.S. veteran of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, responded, “It is appalling and I cannot believe this is legal.”
Conservative political pundit Sarah Longwell, founder and co-publisher of The Bulwark, told Bacon: “Go caucus with the democrats. This Republican Party does not deserve your affiliation. You have the power to do something.”
Note: On Wednesday, Bacon joined Democrats who slammed Trump’s Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff who allegedly coached Russian delegates on how to negotiate with President Trump during conversations regarding a Russian-Ukraine peace plan.
