AN URGENT recall has been issued over jam, chutneys and pesto jars in the UK.

The products pose a “health risk” for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to the undisclosed ingredients.

Five products made by Anglesey Foods Ltd have been affected

Anglesey Foods Ltd is recalling various Jams, Chutneys and Pesto due containing undisclosed barley and/or sulphites.

Shoppers who bought the affected products and have an allergy to barley must not eat them.

Instead, they should return the product to the store it was bought for a full refund.

Anglesey Foods has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations and issued a point-of-sale notice to customers.

The Food Standards Agency said: “These products contain barley (gluten) and/or sulphites making them a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to barley or gluten, or with coeliac disease, and/or a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites.”

The affected items are as follows:

This allergy alert is Wales specific.

Around one in 100 people in the UK are thought to have coeliac disease, an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten intolerance, while others have a lower level of sensitivity.

Sensitivity to sulphite can cause symptoms such as wheezing, chest tightness and in rare cases anaphylaxis, particularly for people with asthma.

It comes after Tesco, Asda, and Argos urgently recalled a popular kitchen gadget.

Nutribullet has issued a recall notice for its GO NBG-100 Rechargeable Blender.

This portable device is a rechargeable blender that has been described as ‘ ideal for those on the go,’ by Asda.

The kitchenware item has also been sold at a number of huge retailers as Tesco and Argos have the item listed on their site.

It is powered by lithium-ion batteries and has been sold in a number of different colours, including black, white, red and grey.

However, it has been confirmed that the device’s batteries may overheat while charging.

As such, it presents a fire risk, according to the Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards.
