Cook County Sheriff’s Office recovers more than $2M in stolen goods from Oak Forest warehouse

Investigators with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Organized Retail Crime Unit recovered more than $2 million worth of stolen merchandise from a warehouse in Oak Forest, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Police received information about a stolen cargo trailer containing Target products from insurance company investigators, the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook. Investigators said the goods were stolen from a Joliet facility on Dec. 13 and were tracked by a GPS device to a warehouse on the 4100 block of 166th Street in Oak Forest.

Crime unit and insurance investigators met the warehouse owner on Tuesday, and although the owner said at the time that the items were not there, detectives executed a search warrant and uncovered the products, the sheriff’s office said.

Multiple pallets of Dyson appliances, Nike shoes and Wahl hair clippers were among the recovered products, as well as merchandise linked to a range of retailers and manufacturers, including Amazon, Macy’s and Walmart, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Dyson products had been stolen during transportation from California to Kentucky, while the Wahl hair clippers were stolen in Northwest Illinois. The Nike goods were last known to be in California, the sheriff’s office said.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing.
