CSU Rams lose ninth game of season, falling at Boise State

Colorado State lost its ninth game of the season Saturday, falling to Boise State 49-21 at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho.

With the loss, the Rams fell to 2-9 and 1-6 in the Mountain West Conference. Boise State improved to 7-4 and 5-2.

After the Broncos scored on their first possession to take a 7-0 lead, the Rams answered on their ensuring possession to tie the game.

Darius Curry completed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Rocky Beers to make it 7-7 with 5:27 left in the first quarter. It was Beers’ sixth touchdown of the season, tying the single-season record for a CSU tight end.

The Rams wouldn’t score again in the first half, but the Broncos weren’t done, notching 20 unanswered points to take a 27-7 lead into halftime. Twice Boise State turned CSU turnovers into points — on an interception from Curry and then a fumble by the redshirt freshman quarterback who was making his first career start.

After Boise State scored the only touchdown of the third quarter to go ahead 34-7, the Rams responded with two touchdowns in less than two minutes early in the fourth.

Lloyd Avant scored on a 4-yard run with 11:09 left. The Rams recovered an onside kick and scored again on a 6-yard pass from Curry to Tay Lanier that cut the Broncos lead to 34-21 with 9:32 on the clock.

Boise then scored two more times to account for the 49-21 final score.

Curry led the CSU offense, passing for 293 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions. Beers caught seven passes for 94 yards and one touchdown. The Rams were held to just 39 rushing yards on 17 carries.

CSU will close out its regular season Friday against Air Force at 1 p.m. at Canvas Stadium.
