Commuters in and around Chicago will now have the chance to purchase a one day pass that gives them access to the CTA, Metra and Pace lines, the transportation networks announced Friday.
The regional day pass is available in the Ventra app and will give riders unlimited rides on all three networks, including CTA buses and trains. All three transit agencies worked with the Regional Transportation Authority to launch the program, according to the announcement.
Metra access will last until 3 a.m. the following day, while CTA and Pace access will last for 24 hours from the time of purchase. The pass will be accessible from the Ventra app for those using the latest version.
Weekend regional day passes will be sold for $9.50 and weekday regional day passes will cost $2.50 more than a typical Metra day pass.
The Metra day passes vary by zone:
• $10 in Metra’s single zone travel area ($6 for reduced fare card holders)
• $13.50 in Metra’s two-zone travel area ($8 for reduced fare card holders)
• $16 in Metra’s three-zone travel area ($9 for reduced fare card holders)
“This pass is another step in our shared effort to make transit more seamless and rider-friendly across the region,” said RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden.
Riders looking for access to all transit on a monthly basis can use the regional connect pass, which offers CTA, Metra and Pace access for a month at a time.
Further integration of the three transit agencies is in the works, the announcement says, but some reforms were blocked by the Illinois General Assembly.
