Alejandro Mata seems to have found a groove in recent weeks and on Monday he was rewarded for his most recent performance.
Colorado’s junior kicker was named the Big 12 special teams player of the week after hitting both of his field goal attempts and all four extra points in a 34-7 win at Arizona on Saturday.
“Mata was outstanding today,” CU head coach Deion Sanders said after the game.
This is the third conference player of the week honor of Mata’s career. A year ago, he was the Pac-12 special teams player of the week after hitting a game-winning field goal to lift CU past Arizona State. He was also the SWAC special teams player of the week once in 2022 when he played at Jackson State.
