Cubs pitcher Justin Steele underwent his scheduled elbow surgery on Friday, he announced on social media.
Appreciate the prayers and thoughts. God is good,” Steele said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. The post also contained an image of Steele in a hospital bed with his arm in a brace.
The surgery is intended to repair Steele’s flexor tendon and address his compromised ulnar collateral ligament.

Steele will miss the rest of the 2025 season.
Before the surgery on Friday, Steele thanked fans and other well-wishers.

Steele was 3-1 through four starts this season, with a 4.76 ERA through 22 2/3 innings.
Steele was an All-Star in 2023 and finished fifth in National League Cy Young Award voting. He went 16-5 with a 3.06 ERA in 30 starts that year.
