Cyclones’ rally falls short as Toledo scores 12-5 excitement


The Iowa season ended Saturday in Knoxville with a 80-73 loss to No. 12 Toledo in round one of the NCAA women’s tournament. Iowa State, the fifth-seeded tournament champion of the Big 12 conference, struggled with shooting all day. The Cyclones finished shooting 24-69 (35 percent). The team caught 31 3s and only made 6. Ashley Joens led the team with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the final game of her legendary Cyclones career. Toledo led by up to 15 points in the second half. ISU cut the lead to 6 to a Lexi Donarski jumper midway through the fourth quarter but never got close. Toledo’s Quinesha Lockett was the star of the game with 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists.
