DAILY NEWS TOP 10

1. Sierra Canyon (2-3 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

A difficult nonleague schedule came to a close Saturday with a loss to Orange Lutheran, which surged back in the second half. Sophomore edge Richie Wesley collected eight tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks while forcing and recovering a fumble. The Trailblazers have a bye this week before starting Mission League play against Chaminade.

2. Oaks Christian (3-2 overall, 0-0 Marmonte League)

The Lions held Gardena Serra to one rushing touchdown on Thursday and running back Deshonne Redeaux recorded 74 yards on the ground in his return to play. Davon Benjamin returned an interception 59 yards for a touchdown and Noah Laberge was 2 for 3 on field goals. Benjamin also had 82 receiving yards, five tackles and a tackle for loss. Joseph Peko recorded three sacks.

3. Chaminade (1-4 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

The Eagles traveled to Arizona for their first win of the season in a 37-14 victory over Saguaro. The defense held the Sabercats to 59 yards on the ground. Mission League play starts Oct. 4 with a home game against Sierra Canyon.

4. Newbury Park (4-0 overall, 0-0 Conejo Coast League)

The Panthers were on a bye last week. They’ve scored 35-plus points in every game and are allowing less than 10 points per game.

Next: at Ventura, Thursday, 7 p.m.

5. Simi Valley (5-0 overall, 0-0 Marmonte League)

The Pioneers secured their spot in the rankings after taking down Thousand Oaks 42-28 on Friday. Brice Hawkins rushed for four touchdowns and 142 yards and Tagg Harrison completed 15 of 17 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown. Jayden Graham was the Pioneers’ leading tackler with 11 tackles. Izak Simpson had three sacks.

6. Thousand Oaks (3-2 overall, 0-0 Conejo Coast)

The Lancers’ three-game win streak was snapped by Simi Valley. Thousand Oaks can regroup with a bye week before hosting Calabasas in their Conejo Coast League opener on Oct. 5.

7. Notre Dame (3-2 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

Steele Pizzella completed 11 of 19 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns in Notre Dame’s 42-10 win over Westlake. He also rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown. Luc Weaver was the leading receiver with 102 yards and a touchdown while Ehimen Oyamendan and Tre Fernandez also hauled in catches for touchdowns.

8. Valencia (1-4 overall, 1-0 Foothill League)

The Vikings opened Foothill League play with their first win of the season. Quarterback Brady Bretthauer threw for 302 yards and five touchdowns in a 62-21 win over Saugus. Brian Bonner rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Nick Seymour and Bonner each had two touchdown catches apiece.

9. Hart (4-1 overall, 1-0 Foothill League)

Hart is on a four-game win streak after beating Golden Valley 35-14 on Friday in their Foothill League opener. The Hawks have held opponents to 19 points or less on three different occasions this season.

Next: vs. West Ranch, Friday, 7 p.m.

10. Birmingham (0-3 overall, 0-0 West Valley League)

The Patriots were on a bye last week. They struggled to score in their last two losses, 31-6 to Oak Park and 35-9 to Hart.
