Dan Bernstein, the former host at The Score who was fired in March, is nearing an agreement to do podcasts with Hubbard Broadcasting, the Sun-Times has learned. Matt Abbatacola, who was a producer for Bernstein at The Score, is expected to have a role.
Bernstein could not be reached for comment, and Hubbard didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
Bernstein, who had been at The Score for 30 years, last appeared on the station March 14. The day before, he posted on X a picture of himself holding a northern pike he caught. An X user later accused him of killing the fish, to which Bernstein responded that it was released successfully.
After the user called Bernstein a liar, Bernstein responded, “I never respond to trolls, but questioning my sportsmanship and conservation awareness sets me off. Wanna fight? I’m a bad enemy, [expletive].” Bernstein eventually threatened to dox the user before posting, “Want your kids involved?”
The Score kept Bernstein off the air for the next week, and it announced on the air March 21 that he wouldn’t return. Camp One Step by Children’s Oncology Services also removed him from its board of directors.
Hubbard, which is based in St. Paul, Minnesota, operates three radio stations in Chicago — WTMX-FM (101.9), WDRV-FM (97.1) and WTBC-FM (100.3). The company began to expand its podcasting portfolio in March with the launch of the Gamut Podcast Network, a group of shows created by its radio stations, which span the country.
