Deadly dossier of deceit, incompetence and neglect behind Grenfell disaster is beyond comprehension

Lethal lies

THE deadly dossier of deceit, incompetence and neglect behind the Grenfell disaster is beyond comprehension.

It beggars belief that almost every organisation involved was crooked, dishonest or lethally useless. But those are the exhaustive inquiry’s conclusions.

AFPIt is agonising for the bereaved families of the Grenfell Tower fire that it will be 2027 at the earliest before anyone faces the music[/caption]

What unites them all is their total indifference to the potential for catastrophe as safety rules were flouted or dodged . . . a callous disregard for the risk being taken with other people’s lives. And 72 died as a result.

Manufacturers of the cladding panels used to renovate the West London tower lied about their flammability and cheated safety tests.

Architects and contractors were “cavalier” about fire regulations, as was the Grenfell tenant management firm.

Safety certificates were issued without proper checks. Politicians, local and national, were indecisive, complacent or negligent.

The fire brigade was poorly led and ill-trained for such a horror.

It is agonising for the bereaved families that it will be 2027 at the earliest before anyone faces the music.

A decade since the inferno — and during which some fatcat bosses at these rogue firms have continued to make vast fortunes.

It is appalling it will take so long — but justice MUST be done.

Manslaughter charges must follow.

Come clean

ANOTHER hideous catalogue of failure led to the murder of aspiring marine Tom Roberts. Why has his inquest been scrapped?

It stinks that no one will be held accountable for the blunders which let Tom’s asylum-seeking killer, already a double-murderer, loose on our streets.

Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai was on the run after gunning down two men in Serbia. Norway had barred him.

Yet he was allowed into Britain after strolling off a ferry claiming to be a 14-year-old orphan. He was 19. Border Force checks were virtually non-existent.

He was even flagged up by Prevent as a potential terrorist and seen with a machete. But cops couldn’t find him and nothing got done until too late.

An inquest would reveal just how this creature slipped through the net, if indeed a net exists.

Instead the attitude seems to be: Well, these things happen.

What a sickening outrage.

Crooks first

AS if GPs’ surgeries aren’t already on their knees, now they must “prioritise” lags freed early from jail to ease overcrowding.

Can’t patients who have NOT committed prison-worthy crimes be the priority?

And why are we still releasing villains before their sentences are complete instead of packing them off to Estonia to finish them?

Our Nato ally is offering to rent out its half-empty jails.

Fill them, not doctors’ waiting rooms.
