Denver police are investigating the Wednesday night death of an inmate at the city’s Downtown Detention Center, according to the sheriff’s department.
A man at Denver’s Downtown Detention Center was found nonresponsive in his housing unit at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the city’s sheriff’s department.
Sheriff’s officials said a medical emergency team was called to the unit and performed life-saving efforts, but the unidentified inmate died shortly after.
The Denver Police Department will investigate the in-custody death, which is protocol, sheriff’s officials said.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will release the man’s identity and cause of death at a later date, after his family has been notified.
